Afrespek aims to develop social initiatives in carefully targeted African countries through the cultivation of Portulacaria afra (spekboom). These social initiatives will bring sustainable employment to local communities while removing greenhouse gases from the atmosphere. By harnessing spekboom's ecological benefits, including its carbon sequestration capability, afrespek will develop Spekboom Propagation Hubs (SPH) that employ local communities and support the development of ecologically sound complementary activities including bee keeping and subsistence farming.
