The precursor to Greek State of Mind was a company called one89seven. one89seven was started by two undergraduate members of Sigma Pi Fraternity (one from Monmouth University and one from The College of New Jersey) in 2009. one89seven began as a means to address the lack of high quality, unique recruitment t-shirts and to refine the overall recruitment publicity system. Within the first year of operations, the founders of one89seven took the company national and began working with other Sigma Pi chapters throughout the country.When both of the founders graduated from college, one89seven ceased operations. About one year after one89seven closed, a Sigma Pi alumnus approached one of the founders about starting a new company with a similar focus on providing high quality recruitment t-shirts across the country. The two agreed to start a new company and to use a similar sounding name in honor of the precursor company. In January 2013, one89seven Apparel, LLC opened for business.The new company started by focusing on printing highly artistic graphic designs on high quality t-shirts. After the first year of operations, the owners decided to bring affordable, classic Greek letters to their lineup. In its second year, the company's widespread and growing success prompted the owners to begin thinking about expanding to serve additional Greek organizations, which they did in January 2015. The expansion saw the company grow from serving just one organization to serving 16 different fraternities and sororities as well as creating apparel for Monmouth University, local small businesses, and nonprofits. In addition, the owners changed the trade name of the company to Greek State of Mind.Today, GSOM is a successful and growing enterprise operating out of two home-based locations in New Jersey. The company attends at least two international fraternity conferences and four regional fraternity conferences every year as well as manages a high traffic, customer-focused website.
