Effects of Serious Mental Illness & Substance Abuse on Criminal Offenses. The widely held belief that serious mental illness has been "Criminalize" is based mainly on findings that persons with serious mental illness are more likely to be arrested (1) and are overrepresented in jails (2) and prisons (3). Why persons with serious mental illness are more likely to be arrested and incarcerated is unclear, but a literal & popular interpretation of the criminalization hypothesis implies two possibilities.1. symptoms of serious mental illness have become de facto criminal offenses; that is, persons with serious mental illness are arrested and incarcerated for displaying psychiatric symptoms. 2. symptoms of serious mental illness motivate or otherwise cause actual criminal offenses.Saying 'Know' to Drugs to call attention to the fact that ecstasy is conditioned by History & Culture. In the case of Pakistan, the historical puritan ethos as well as the ongoing war on Drug conditions the Drug experience. Drug Education & Treatment in Pakistan must change to end the fear & loathing many Pakistanis have about Drug use in general. A new understanding of Addiction must recognize the subjective pleasure & euphoria that Drugs produce for users and occasionally for abusers. A person's Drug experience is the interpretation of Drug sensations through a psychological set of expectations about what the Drug will do as well as Socio / Environmental settings that can ultimately lead to how the Drug is used or if it is abused.Addiction is not all about drugs, it's about Brains. It is not the substances a person uses that make them an addict; it is not even the quantity or frequency of use. Addiction is about what happens in a person's brain when they are exposed to rewarding substances or rewarding behaviors & it is more about reward circuitry in the brain and related brain structures than it is about the external chemicals or behavior that "turn on" that reward circuitry.
