The Rural Outreach Project was launched in 2019 as a joint effort between Memorial University of Newfoundland's Faculty of Engineering and Applied Sciences and Centre for Social Enterprise (CSE). The initiative aims to provide assistance to rural communities in Newfoundland and Labrador, which are often managed by volunteer teams, such as town councillors, members of Local Service District Committees, or community-based non-profit social enterprises. By helping these communities develop and implement their ideas, the Rural Outreach Project aims to overcome obstacles and improve living conditions while preserving the province's cultural heritage.Through the Rural Outreach Project, engineering students are given the opportunity to work on meaningful projects that have a real impact on these communities. These projects include tasks such as GIS mapping, website development, and 3D modeling. In addition to benefiting the communities, this program also provides students with a better understanding of the challenges faced by rural communities and the untapped potential that exists in these areas.
